Altoona, IA

Services provided on this project:

Architecture Overview:

Designed to be family friendly and accessible to all ages, this welcoming community center’s comprehensive facilities include a pool, multi-purpose gymnasium, jogging track, racquetball/handball courts, cardio-theater and fitness area, plus meeting and gathering spaces for the community. RDG designed the original 1992 building, as well as the 9,000 square foot 2002 addition. This 22,811 square foot addition helps to meet demand and avoid the need for capping memberships. The expansion, consciously given a more contemporary design, remains in balance with the original building through the use of matching brick and fluid lines.

Engineering Overview:

This community fitness center addition included a gymnasium, racquetball courts and an exercise area. Project included replacement of the boiler system, modification of the chilled water system, addition of heating and cooling systems, control modification to the pool mechanical system, extension of fire sprinkler protection system, a new electrical service, and new lighting system in the addition.
