Iowa Riverfront Master Plan

Coralville, IA

Landscape Architecture Overview:

In 2008, the communities along the Iowa River experienced a devastating 500 year flood event. To protect the community from future flooding, the city of Coralville quickly set about implementing several projects along their riverfront. However, these projects lacked an overall plan to rethink the relationship to the river and provide connections to the larger community.

By advocating for and developing a context-driven Framework Plan that evaluated existing cultural and transportation systems and by engaging the public to provide continued input, RDG created a Master Plan that will reconnect a community to its Riverfront. The ultimate Riverfront vision is one that connects the future user to multi-layered systems that include environmental restoration, social engagement, celebration, public art, recreation, and economic analysis.
