Community Planning Overview:

De Pere is a vibrant community that numerous professionals working in the Green Bay Metro Area and students attending St. Norbert College call home. In 2009, RDG was retained to complete a downtown plan and historic design guidelines along with a historic preservation plan for three neighborhoods adjacent to downtown. The plan includes a comprehensive approach to redeveloping strategic sites on both sides of the Fox River; identifies logical movements for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists; integrates the regional trail and community parks; restores activity to the river; prepares development guidelines for new construction; and celebrates the community’s distinctive character. While much of the industry that was central to the community’s early development is now gone, De Pere still maintains a strong link to the Fox River and natural environment. Yet, the river forms a divide in the community, separating its downtown into two separate and unique districts. On the eastern banks of the river, downtown is a vibrant center for retail, entertainment, and commerce. On the western banks of the river, downtown is dominated by offices, St. Norbert College, and small retail establishments. The De Pere Downtown Plan unites the city geographically and through a program of strategic policy and investment to create a unique community commons within the Green Bay Metropolitan Area.
