Federal Avenue Streetscape and Plaza Improvements

Landscape Architecture Overview:

A strong public involvement process strategy was the cornerstone of this project. Design work sessions, broken into large and small group meetings and individual property and business owners' discussions, allowed any members of the community with interest to be involved in and influence concept development and preliminary design. Additionally, a project website provided an avenue for input and comments on specific concepts and overall project priorities. With the benefit of this extensive process, the team developed a design that takes cues from turn-of-the-century cantenary lighting, past and existing architectural significance and the rich cultural foundation that exists within the community.

Art Studio Overview:

The integrated artwork throughout the Federal Avenue Streetscape is based on site-specific history. Elements in custom tile, pattern-cut metal, sculptural furniture and lighting create a continuity in character with a significant architectural heritage. The site is anchored by Frank Lloyd Wright’s restored Park Inn Hotel on the Federal Avenue Plaza. The artwork also celebrates Meredith Wilson and the parade history of “River City.”
