Marshalltown Community Schools - Roundhouse Renovation

Marshalltown, IA

Services provided on this project:

Architecture Overview:

Marshalltown Community School District's unique "Roundhouse" gymnasium was the focus of an extensive master planning effort, led by RDG. We evaluated all potential programmatic and functional user group desires related to physical education, competitive athletic, recreational and support functions for the building, into the foreseeable future. The resulting design adds to and improves the building's function, while paying respect to the history and powerful image of the Roundhouse. Particular attention was paid to the style and scale of new additions with the goal of highlighting and featuring the major attributes of the Round House. The building's additions communicate the district's quest to stay competitive and current with a prideful balance that highlights Marshalltown's historical success and community contribution. The interior renovation modernizes the space and features a hall of pride for Marshalltown Athletics, a new locker room, a stunning new main entrance, and a new space for the Athletic Director.
