University of Iowa - College of Dentistry Donor Wall
Iowa City, IA
Services provided on this project:
Graphic Design Overview:
Seeking a concept for the recognition of nearly five hundred donors to this building renovation, designers found inspiration in the architecture of the building, the geometric artwork preferred by owners; the stainless steel tools utilized in the practice of dentistry. The design solution utilizes layering, bright colors, and a sculptural depth to show off the concrete wall behind. Varying thickness of acrylic rows alternate to create a stepping texture and captures light purposefully to add depth to each donor block. The intentional selection of a vivid metallic ombre blends the School’s use of purple to the muted tones of the building. A reference to dental tools, stainless steel bars are integrated into the overall composition as a dynamic element reflecting light from the windows, contrasting the rectilinear architecture, and connecting to the story of place.
