The Sorrell Center serves as the “heart” of campus, where the colleges of medicine, nursing, allied health and pharmacy gather to learn, interact and socialize. Designed around a model of interdisciplinary clinical care and education, the building features a clinical skills and simulation center, a virtual microscopy lab, 80-seat case method rooms, 200 -seat lecture halls and 14 small and medium group learning rooms. I nteraction spaces are strategically located throughout the building to support small group and large group gathering as well as quiet study. Technology ranges from state-of-the-art simulation to seamless distance learning and collaboration technology . Envisioned as a catalyst for learning, students use the building from the early morning hours until late in the evening. A joint venture with HDR, the building is the first UNMC building to achieve LEED certif ication .
