Washington Street: Cathedral District
Bismarck, ND
Services provided on this project:
Landscape Architecture Overview:
The concept for Washington Street was derived from several public design charrettes as well as individual interviews with residents of the historic Cathedral District. The concept embraces a minimalist approach to the street widening with careful attention to retaining trees and down-playing the scale of the widening by utilizing concrete pavers for the turning lane. Pedestrian-scale lights and historic markers embracing the architectural character of the district were employed to give scale and character to the improvements. The historical markers highlight significant neighborhood elements and events and add to the texture of the neighborhood.
