The schedule below provides an overview of the events and opportunities to get involved!

June: Steering Committee Kick-off
The consultant team will host a kick-off meeting with the project’s Steering Committee to discuss directions and priorities for the project.

June: Streetscape Workshop
The team is jumping into action right away by hosting a Streetscape Workshop that is open to the public.

August: Focus Group Discussions

What are focus groups?  Focus groups is a two-day program of focus group meetings will engage businesses, property owners, neighborhood residents, and others in informal conversations about the district and its potential. If you would like to participate, contact Andy Conlon at city hall.  Attend the Community Roundtable event in October as an alternative.

October: Student Program

The team will host a student program with the High School to get ideas and input from the next generation of Grand Forks residents. Additionally, the program becomes an educational opportunity about city planning and design.

Design Studio 1: Streetscape – OPEN PUBLIC EVENT

What is a design studio?
The consultant team is taking your ideas and beginning to design concepts for the future streetscape – all things transportation, sidewalks, materials, and aesthetics between the curb and private property lines. The event will begin with a short orientation, followed by a self-guided tour for you to interact with planners and engineers at breakout stations. You can also provide feedback on emerging ideas or draw your own. Open to all the public….stay for 15 minutes or the entire session – we want to talk with you!

Steering Committee Refinement of Design Studio Concepts

What is concept review?
Concepts prepared during the design studio will be posted to this website and shared with the steering committee. We encourage you to share your comments with the project team here to help us refine the plan’s concepts and recommendations.

Community Kick-off Meeting – OPEN PUBLIC EVENT

What is a community kick-off?
A public event will be held to introduce the full project and engage people in discussion. The round table type meeting is a 75 minute period for discussion and idea generation for Downtown Grand Forks. The event is open to the entire public.

Design Studio 2: Downtown – OPEN PUBLIC EVENT

What is a design studio?
After initial public input and discussion about the streetscape and general insights about Downtown Grand Forks, the consultant team is taking your ideas again and beginning to design concepts for the remainder of downtown including wayfinding, development strategies, parks, and believe it or not, MORE streetscape. The event is structured the same as Design Studio 1. However, you will learn more about key issues facing the district such as transportation, commercial and housing opportunities, potential redevelopment sites, and public space improvements. You can also provide feedback on emerging ideas or draw your own. Open to all the public….stay for 15 minutes or the entire session – we want to talk with you!

Implementation Workshop

What is an implementation workshop?
After a detailed review of the draft Action Plans, concepts, and recommendations, leaders and key stakeholders will discuss strategies for implementation to make the plan a reality.

Open House/Plan Presentation Events – OPEN PUBLIC EVENTS
Dates and Locations to be determined

What is an open house?
The consultant team will present the plan’s concepts and recommendations in multiple open house events at milestone points in the planning process. Displays and exhibits will be available for the public to review and provide additional comment.
