Background
The initial impetus for an Arts district comes from the desire for a safe and walkable core in Maize, a place of identity that lets people know they are in Maize. Academy Avenue and Park Avenue were identified as opportunities for reimagining this experience for the citizens of Maize. Anchored by the Maize City Park, three elementary schools, two churches, and a coffee shop, the area was named the “Academy Arts District.” With your help, the Academy Arts District Master Plan will create a vision for a new community destination in Maize that creates memories for all ages.
A Master Plan helps decision makers, stakeholders, and community members define opportunities and improvements throughout the study area. Doing so establishes a framework to ensure incremental policies and decisions help achieve those aspirations over time. More than a snapshot in time, the plan will be a living document, used and updated by decision-makers, property owners, businesses, and residents. The Plan will provide a measured assessment of present conditions and future opportunities that focuses on meeting the needs of the immediate area and community at large.
