Take the Survey!

We need to hear from you!

A Visual Listening Survey is available online for you to provide input on things that may or may not fit in the Academy Arts District. Taking the survey is simple and a fun way to see what the possibilities are. Meanwhile, it informs our designers to understand how to tailor a plan for Maize.

Please share your opinion and take the visual survey here.

A big thank you to everyone who participated in the kick-off open house and stakeholder focus groups! The ideas we received about giving an identity to the Academy Arts District are extremely helpful as we begin to understand the priorities of residents, the city, school district, and other stakeholders. If you weren't able to attend that is ok! There are plenty more opportunities to participate -

1. Take the online survey,

2. Submit comments through the "Get Involved" tab above, and

3. Check out the schedule for future public events...next up is the interactive design studio on September 25th and 26th. Details to come soon!

This is YOUR plan!

The City of Maize is developing a Master Plan to create a safe and walkable core in the community, a place of identity that lets people know they are in Maize. Academy Avenue and Park Avenue were identified as destination points for reimagining this  experience in Maize. The first step is to identify a cohesive community vision for the future of the district - whether you live, work, visit, or just travel through Maize, we want to hear from you!

You are invited to attend a kick-off open house on August 21st. Learn about the planning process and share your ideas about current conditions, future possibilities, and what "Academy Arts" means to you.

The event includes a short presentation at 6:15 p.m., followed by small-group discussions with your neighbors.

WHERE: CITY HALL - 10100 W. Grady Avenue
WHEN: Tuesday, August 21st AT 6:00 P.M.

Steering Committee Kick-Off

Planning for the Academy Arts District is underway! The Steering Committee met for the first time on July 25th at MOXI Junction. The Committee discussed the project schedule, scope, and desires for creating an Arts District in Maize. Key discussion points included:

  • A need to create an identity for Maize, a destination for people
  • Children and pedestrian safety
  • How do we define "Art"?
  • What does "Art" mean to the community?
  • What should an Arts District convey?

We'll need your help to answer these questions. Look out for public engagement events coming up in August and September!
