Clive Greenbelt Master Plan Moves Forward

The City of Clive plans to launch a new master plan for the Clive Greenbelt, a critical connection within the popular Central Iowa Trails Network. Last night, the Clive City Council approved the hiring of a consulting team led by RDG Planning & Design of Des Moines to spearhead a comprehensive effort to re-imagine the greenbelt’s future.

“This plan will help achieve a community-based vision for the greenbelt. The greenbelt helps drive economic re-development, natural resources restoration, recreation, and public health in our community,” according to Clive Mayor Scott Cirksena. “This plan will play a key role in Clive’s ongoing success story,” he adds.

The 16 month process will be guided by the city’s strategic plan and build on Clive’s Distinct by Nature brand. In addition to RDG, team collaborators include Applied Ecological Services, ConsultEcon and the Healthiest State Initiative. The consulting team is committed to creating healthy, resilient communities.

The inclusion of the Healthiest State Initiative will help Clive break new ground in understanding the role the greenbelt plays in maintaining public health. “Working directly with local public health data to influence the development of an important community amenity is new ground for Iowa and perhaps the nation. We’re excited for the opportunity,” says Jami Haberl, executive director of the Healthiest State.

The plan will rely heavily on the public for its success. Announcements regarding upcoming avenues for public input will be made soon. Meanwhile, the City encourages residents to check the City’s website for updates at www.cityofclive.com and/or sign up for regular updates through the City’s Development E-Newsletter at http://tinyurl.com/clivedevelopment.
