Erin Van Zee Named PRSA Nebraska’s “Newcomer of the Year”

The Public Relations Society of American Nebraska Chapter’s annual award recognizes a member who has made significant contributions to the organization and profession.

RDG Planning & Design is pleased to announce that the firm’s Communications Director, Erin Van Zee, has been named “Newcomer of the Year” by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Nebraska Chapter. The recognition is part of PRSA Nebraska’s annual Paper Anvil Gala and Awards ceremony, an annual event that celebrates the best in local public relations work and service. This year’s event was held virtually on Thursday, January 28, 2021.

PRSA Nebraska’s “Newcomer of the Year” is presented to an individual who has been a member of PRSA for one to three years and has made a significant contribution to PRSA Nebraska through leadership and/or committee membership. In addition to service to the organization, the winning individual has also demonstrated a significant contribution to the public relations profession.

“Since joining RDG in 2019 as our communications director, Erin has shown exemplary commitment to elevating our firm’s standing within the industry and beyond,” said RDG Principal and Chief Marketing Officer Scott Crawford, PLA, ASLA, LEED AP. “Through the many challenges 2020 has brought, Erin has continued to make a difference in our organization. She exemplifies our mission to create meaning together, and continuously works to positively impact her colleagues, her industry and her community.”

Van Zee officially joined PRSA Nebraska in 2020 and during that time has served as programming co-chair on the organization’s board of directors. Working alongside co-chair Angie Hempel, Van Zee helped safeguard the chapter’s programmatic offerings, making sure it ontinued to offer highly relevant and engaging material. Over the last year, Van Zee also represented RDG and her profession as a speaker in multiple presentations, including as part of a panel on board diversity at the Greater Omaha Chamber’s 2020 CODE Conference, as part of a panel for the American Advertising Federation about connecting and networking during virtual events and as a moderator for PRSA Nebraska’s panel on freelancing.

“Being recognized as “Newcomer of the Year” means a great deal to me, especially for work done in a year when so much felt strange and surreal,” said Van Zee. “Over the last year, I was privileged to be a part of creating a space where fellow PR professionals could come and learn how to best serve their organizations and communities. I’m very thankful for the support RDG has given me, and for the many friends and colleagues who continue to push me to strive for greatness.”
