RDG Recognized with Two Experiential Graphic Design Awards
Conferred at the 64th annual Art Directors Association of Iowa Design Exhibition, the awards recognize creative design accomplishments in Iowa.
The Art Directors Association of Iowa (ADAI) has recognized RDG Planning & Design with two graphic design awards. Conferred at the 64th annual Design Exhibition, the awards celebrate art and design from professionals and students throughout Iowa. The two RDG projects recognized include The City of Sioux Falls – Falls Park Master Plan Proposal Book (Excellence Award for Book Design) and The Avenues Urban Recreation District Logo (Best in Category for Identity Mark), both of which represent work by the firm’s experiential graphic design team.
ADAI’s Annual Design Exhibition aims to showcase the very best of Iowa’s design and bring Iowa students and professional designers together in a creative community. The event provides an opportunity for Iowans to showcase themselves as qualified professionals and talented artists.
“The creative vision of both projects was a true collaboration of strengths. We are humbled to have been recognized amongst the talent this competition brings,” said Mindy Alvarez, multimedia designer and studio leader. “Kudos to each and every person who shared their creativity for all of us to see and experience.”
Inspired by the balance of opposing forces present in Falls Park, South Dakota, The City of Sioux Falls – Falls Park Master Plan Proposal Book presents content in sharp contrast, both chromatically and compositionally. To stand out in a stack of competing proposals, the book is bound in an unusual size and includes pages printed on translucent vellum to better illustrate the layers of the design process.
The mosaic design for The Avenues Urban Recreation District logo draws inspiration from aerial views of the Avenues neighborhood located in Des Moines, Iowa. The colors illustrate the concept of recreational features of varying intensity interspersed throughout the district. These elements come together to form the logo, much like individual residents and development projects form a community.
