The Olathe City Council adopted the Downtown Olathe Active Transportation Plan at their May meeting. The plan will serve as a blueprint for implementation of active transportation projects in the downtown as funding becomes available. Also passed during the council meeting was a Complete Streets Policy drafted based on elements discussed during this project. To read the final plan click the link below.
Come join us for the final open house to see the routes proposed in the Downtown Active Transportation Plan. The open house will be held on Monday, October 7th from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm at Olathe City Hall, 1st Floor Conference Room,100 E Santa Fe St. This will be an informal interactive process to unveil the final concepts and to have the public share their feedback. On July 30th, the project team held an open house for the Downtown Olathe Active Transportation Plan to show the public concepts developed thus far and to solicit feedback. The concept open house is your opportunity to see the ideas and sketches developed so far by the project team and give your feedback to help improve and refine the plans.
Stop in at any time between 4 and 6 pm and stay for as long as you would like. The project team will be available to answer any questions and listen to your comments.
The project team had a successful first visit and met with the technical committee, steering committee, and conducted a walking tour with staff. The presentation given to the steering committee can be accessed here.
Next week the project consultants for the Olathe Downtown Active Transportation Plan will be meeting with city staff and the newly formed steering committee to kick-off the planning process. Following the meetings, the team will be touring the project area, focused on Kansas Avenue in downtown. The document will be building upon the recently adopted Envision Olathe Downtown Plan (see below) in addition to several other documents listed below. The plan is here! The steering committee is pleased to present a draft of Envision Olathe! Over the last year, the city has been developing a plan for the next 10 to 15 years. The downtown plan continues the momentum and commitment of past planning efforts by describing what success looks like for the community. These principles emerged from numerous interviews, small group discussions, events, and meetings:
