Master
Planning
Beginning in 2001, the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) asked RDG to design a plan for Education in the 21st Century. The growing need for health professionals combined with academic departments spread around campus in poor facilities inspired UNMC to embark upon a visionary and aggressive plan that not only profoundly changed the campus fabric but positioned UNMC to be a premier provider of health care education.
In 2012, RDG was engaged to create the first UNMC/Nebraska Medicine (NMED) comprehensive master plan. With over 10 million square feet of facilities statewide, the plan included all academic and medical functions for both institutions and all medical specialties offered by Nebraska Medicine. Now a living document, this plan has been updated in 2016 and 2019 to address the components that have been executed and include current needs for future growth and success.
The results have created a campus that is not only physically connected in Omaha but also virtually connected to other campuses across Nebraska. In addition to the comprehensive master plan, several 'mini master plans' have been developed that provide a more specific focus for individual specialties including imaging, ambulatory, cardiology, sterile processing and site areas such as the Saddle Creek Development, Village Pointe Campus, Leavenworth Corridor and more.
