Environments for Aging Announces 27th Annual Design Showcase Award Winners
Larsen Health Center at Shell Point Retirement Community, completed in collaboration with RDG, has been recognized for outstanding achievement in the design of senior living communities.
Environments for Aging has announced the winners of the 27th annual Design Showcase, a yearly awards program that recognizes outstanding achievements in the design of senior living communities. Larsen Health Center, designed and constructed in collaboration with RDG Planning & Design, Wegman Design Group, The Weitz Company, Johnson Engineering, Stantec Consulting Services and Fiber Solutions, received an honorable mention distinction.
Located within Shell Point Retirement Community’s Waterside neighborhood in Fort Myers, Florida, Larsen Health Center replaces and reimagines an existing skilled nursing facility to bring together all of Shell Point’s health care services. The center, which officially opened in January 2022, encompasses a comprehensive medical center, behavioral health suite, rehabilitation center, dental offices, pharmacy and a 180-bed skilled nursing facility with private rooms.
Environments for Aging magazine, along with representatives from the Society for the Advancement of Gerontological Environments, The Center for Health Design and IIDA, reviewed projects from across the nation to recognize those that best address the needs of the aging population, from skilled nursing residents to active adults.
Projects earning Honorable Mention and Award of Merit recognition will receive bonus editorial coverage in the issue and be celebrated during a magazine awards luncheon at the Environments for Aging Conference + Expo held April 15-18, 2023, in Charlotte, North Carolina.
