The facility, a collaboration between Pre-K 4 SA, HOLT Group, RDG Planning & Design and Pfluger Architects, aims to address pressing childcare needs on the city’s south side.

RDG Planning & Design, in partnership with Pre-K 4 SA, HOLT Group, is proud to announce the groundbreaking of the South Education Center, a state-of-the-art early learning facility designed to address childcare needs on San Antonio's south side. The project reflects a significant public-private collaboration aimed at enhancing early childhood education in under-resourced areas.

"This project is not just a model for designing schools with the unique needs of children ages birth to four in mind; it's a powerful example of the role business leaders can play in ensuring every child has access to high-quality early education," said Dr. Sarah Baray, Pre-K 4 SA CEO. "Acting as a dynamic catalyst, our partnership with HOLT Group and our contractors symbolizes a new path to achieving high-quality early learning rooted in the vibrant community we call home. It is a true accomplishment in San Antonio, at this site, in this location."

In recent years, south and southeast San Antonio have seen a decline in high-quality childcare options, especially for families with children four years and younger. Situated at 3510 S WW White Road, South Education Center signifies Pre-K 4 SA's dedication to ensuring every child has access to quality early childhood education in San Antonio. The center's design draws inspiration from San Antonio's rich culture and landscape, creating an environment that nurtures young children's growth and fosters learning through play.

"RDG is thrilled to contribute to a project that addresses a critical need for quality early childhood education and reflects our commitment to creating meaningful and sustainable environments," said RDG Architect and Partner Ed Buglewicz, AIA. "This center will serve to enrich the community and support the educational landscape in San Antonio, making accessible education opportunities available to more children."

Design for the 53,000-SF center will incorporate modern classrooms for infants and toddlers, equipped to meet the highest early childhood education standards, as well as specialized spaces for interactive learning and play-based activities. The building is designed for renewable energy, ensuring a healthier environment for children and setting a precedent for future educational facilities. A testament to the power of community and corporate partnership in advancing educational opportunities, the South Education Center is set to open in the summer of 2025. RDG is providing design services in collaboration with Pfluger Architects.
