RDG in the Media: 2026 Aquatic Design Portfolio

Athletic Business’s 2026 Aquatic Design Portfolio demonstrates the breadth of innovation shaping the aquatic industry. Forty-two projects were selected, spanning high schools, colleges, community centers, waterparks and hospitality properties, and showcase how aquatic spaces can serve both athletes and casual swimmers. Among the highlighted projects are two RDG-designed spaces: the University of South Dakota Wellness Center & Natatorium and the YMCA Water Park at The Landing.

Located in Vermillion, South Dakota, expansion for the University of South Dakota’s Wellness Center & Natatorium provides state-of-the-art aquatics and amenities for both the university and the Vermillion community. RDG’s design for the space features a 50-meter competition pool with two movable bulkheads, providing maximum flexibility, as well as an activity pool that allows for warm-water activities that would not otherwise be possible in the colder competition pool. By including both bodies of water at different temperatures, the user base is broadened to include patrons of all ages and various activity types, supporting recreation, athletics, wellness programs and community outreach.

The YMCA Water Park at The Landing in Bettendorf, Iowa, features an innovative outdoor aquatics center designed to meet the diverse needs of the community. The facility features three main attractions: a splash pad, a leisure pool and a lazy river. Throughout the facility, there are also attractions for older children, teens and adults, including a NinjaCross course and three large waterslides. The Water Park at the Landing provides a well-rounded and engaging water experience for visitors of all ages.
