RDG in the Media: Arrowhead Park Plan Connects District
Mike Bell speaks with Neenah News to discuss proposed updates for a local park in Neenah, Wisconsin.
Arrowhead Park in Neenah, Wisconsin, is set for a transformation, with plans to turn it into a vibrant leisure, recreation and entertainment hub. Neenah News notes that the city unveiled its latest vision for the park at City Hall, aiming to blend modern amenities with the area's rich natural surroundings. The redevelopment plan, created by RDG Planning & Design, includes amenities such as outdoor performance spaces, public art installations and community gathering areas. Notable features include a pedestrian overpass, a high-capacity event building with a rooftop restaurant, a community building, a celebration lawn and a dual-sided amphitheater.
The redevelopment focuses on incorporating nature into the design, with a nature-inspired landscape on the park's west side. This area will feature recreational trails, wooden decks, sand beaches, and green spaces. The plan also includes open-air structures with restrooms and gas fireplaces, easing the slope of the shoreline for better water access and creating areas for fishing and quiet contemplation.
RDG Landscape Architect and Partner Mike Bell, ASLA, emphasized the importance of not overdeveloping the park and maintaining a balance between natural and urban elements, ensuring that the park remains a peaceful oasis in the heart of the city.
Moving forward, the city has allocated $1 million for Arrowhead Park improvements in the upcoming year, largely funded by carry-forward funds. Learn more about the plans for Arrowhead Park on May 24, 2024, in the Neenah News issue.
