The Art Studio at RDG was among five artists selected by the Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation and the Des Moines Airport.

On July 24, 2024, the Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation and the Des Moines Airport Authority announced the artists chosen for five large-scale installations throughout the new Des Moines International Terminal. Through an open call to artists living and working in Iowa, The Art Studio at RDG’s proposal was chosen for a multi-faceted exterior site. Artists chosen from an international pool will complete four interior sites.

All five artists were selected by a committee of representatives from the Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation, the Des Moines Airport Authority and community stakeholders. The art installations will be owned by the Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation and will be on permanent loan to the airport. The exterior installation encompasses the approach to the terminal and a series of bus shelters. The Art Studio at RDG’s design, envisioned by artist Matt Niebuhr, will incorporate boldly colored “sentinels” along the approach that allude to the region’s native plants.
