RDG in the Media: Moving Whitewater Forward
The City of Whitewater, Wisconsin, in partnership with RDG, has begun the early stages of a comprehensive plan to shape the city's future for the next 20 years.
A new comprehensive plan titled “Whitewater Forward” will shape the growth in Whitewater, Wisconsin, over the next 20 years. In collaboration with RDG Planning & Design, the City of Whitewater has begun the early stages of the plan, focused on gathering input from high school students, community groups and other stakeholders to ensure the city’s priorities reflect the community's needs.
“Whitewater Forward” addresses all areas of community development, including land use, housing, transportation, parks, infrastructure and economic development. Because RDG’s process for guiding comprehensive plans begins with community input, the Whitewater Forward community engagement and planning process began with a community roundtable. During this event, organized in collaboration with the city, community members were given space to share their concerns with officials and planners. This phase of the plan will continue to focus on gathering input to make sure the city’s priorities reflect the community’s needs
RDG Urban Planner and Partner Charlie Cowell, AICP, noted themes that emerged from these early discussions, explaining, “On a very broad level, housing has come up in every session so far: housing affordability and the need for more ownership options…I think people would like to see a little bit more variety downtown, activity downtown to draw in students.”
As the comprehensive plan project moves forward, residents are encouraged to take a monthly survey and contact representatives directly to give feedback.
