The Manhattan Kansas Parish partnered with RDG on the rebirth of its historic Italianate church.

Seven Dolors Catholic Church has been presented with historic preservation awards from the Manhattan / Riley County Preservation Alliance (Interior Award) and the Kansas Preservation Alliance (Merit Award for Excellence in Rehabilitation).

RDG’s collaborative renovation process involved a three-fold approach: refresh finishes (RENOVATE), introduce new mechanical and sound systems (INNOVATE) and revive elements of liturgical and historic significance (RESTORE). Building on a unique parish name, the seven sorrows of Mary taken from scripture are displayed throughout. Dialogue with the historic preservation board of the city of Manhattan, Kansas ensured continued use by this active parish while preserving an iconic structure for the greater community.

Bishop Jerry Vincke rededicated Seven Dolors Catholic Church in November of 2018 — the culmination of five years of hard work and dedication — in time for its 100th anniversary celebration. For the people of the parish, the rededication ceremony presented delight and wonder. In attendance were several parishioners who have called this church home for generations, including one member who was older than the church itself.
