Des Moines - Douglas Avenue Corridor Plan

Des Moines, IA

Landscape Architecture Overview:

The Douglas Avenue Corridor Plan connects neighborhoods, cultures and community destinations that, together, create a unique environment relative to other corridors in Des Moines. This corridor is a gateway to four distinct Des Moines' neighborhoods, and provides an opportunity for people to celebrate their heritage and come together to create new traditions. The plan's purpose is to address a set of intertwining challenges on the aging 2.4 mile Douglas Avenue: a trend of private property disinvestment/turnover along the corridor; poor multi-modal transportation access/safety beyond the private vehicle; and a lack of corridor identity. The plan takes a holistic approach in tackling these challenges to provide the community, city, staff and partner organizations with a road map for a strong future.
