The Douglas Avenue Corridor Plan connects and revitalizes neighborhoods, ensuring a safer, more vibrant future for all who live and work in Des Moines.

The Plan connects neighborhoods, cultures and community destinations that, together, embody a unique environment relative to other corridors in Des Moines. This corridor is a gateway to four distinct Des Moines' neighborhoods; thus it provides an opportunity for people to celebrate their heritage and come together to create new traditions. The purpose of the plan is to address a set of intertwining challenges on the aging 2.4-mile Douglas Avenue: a trend of private property disinvestment and turnover along the corridor; poor multi-modal transportation access and safety beyond the private vehicle; and a lack of corridor identity. This plan offers a comprehensive solution to the challenges faced by the community, city, staff and partner organizations, providing a roadmap for a stronger future.
