Landscape Architecture Overview:
RDG worked closely with Architects and Landscape Designers from Agrest and Gandelsonas Architects, LLP, to take the dream and vision of a philanthropist and work it into a realistic and pragmatic public space. Our integrated design process places equal importance on a working knowledge of the site and the downtown environment to meet the public need. Integrating landscape architecture, civil and electrical engineering, lighting and artistry, a two-block stretch in the Western Gateway to downtown Des Moines is a flexible space designed to withstand a variety of uses. Besides its artistic elements, the Pappajohn Sculpture Park also serves as a concert venue and city park. The diverse needs of downtown residents, businesses and community leaders were wrapped into a very simple and clean design solution that embraces the vision for both the City and generous donors.
