Architecture Overview:

Menno Haven is a non-profit senior living community with a mission to serve seniors by nurturing the body, mind and spirit. To transition memory care residents from an outdated facility to a state-of-the-art, research-driven residence, Menno Haven engaged RDG to design a series of Small House residences. Envisioned as a home for physically active residents with cognitive memory loss to live semi-independently, the design for Menno Haven’s Memory Homes creates a safe, secure, family-centered environment where seniors with dementia can thrive. RDG’s design for these small-scale, specialized environments meet both Assisted Living and Personal Care standards in Pennsylvania, which allows Menno Haven the flexibility to adjust the type of care provided if necessary, and follows the research-driven “Small House model” for senior care, accommodating up to 12 residents within each home. Each of the two 10,318 SF small houses includes private rooms with a bathroom, as well as shared household spaces such as a central den, family-style dining, an activity area, a salon and spa and a secure courtyard. Interior materials and details utilize soft, serene and inviting elements to create a sense of calm and comfort. The overall design is one that encourages residents to enjoy life independently and provides families with peace of mind that their loved one is in an environment designed to help them live life to the fullest
