University of Connecticut Athletic District

Storrs, CT

Services provided on this project:

Architecture Overview:

This project programs and designs a new athletic destination in the west campus district of the Storrs campus. The athletic district becomes the home for UCONN men’s and women’s soccer, baseball, and softball, as well as track & field throws. The district includes new spectator facilities for each sport, a shared performance center housing locker rooms, offices, training area, strength and conditioning, equipment issue and other support areas. The project creates an athletic district that aids in athlete recruiting, focuses on the student athlete and enhances fan experience.

Graphic Design Overview:

The Athletic District is an area that encompasses three stadiums and a performance center for five sports including strength and conditioning, training, offices, conference areas, a batting tunnel and locker rooms. Responsible for developing a look under the umbrella of the University of Connecticut’s (UCONN) athletic style guide, we studied how the brand was applied to current/past marketing and campus graphics. With circulation knowledge on recruiting, and vantage views, a branded environment was developed. Equity among sports was a must. While graphics have the same look, they include different content based on history, longevity and coaching staff. The last phase (in process) will include five interactive, touchscreen kiosks. These will be an invaluable recruiting tool. Digital branding includes easy-to-search for player stats, professionals, championships and more.
