Engineering News-Record Midwest Announces Best Projects for 2019
The RDG-designed Creighton University School of Dentistry was named Best Higher Education/Research Project.
Engineering News-Record (ENR) Midwest recently announced its 2019 Best Projects award winners. The RDG-designed Creighton University School of Dentistry, located in Omaha, Nebraska, was named the year’s Best Higher Education/Research Project. ENR Midwest judges a carefully curated list of high-quality entries, culling that list down to a select few winning entries for each year's ENR Midwest Best Projects competition.
“Our team optimized the design and execution of infrastructure, envelope, utilities and finishes for Creighton University’s School of Dentistry,” said RDG Architect and Partner Benjamin Kroll, AIA. “We share this recognition with Creighton, our project partners and the many individuals who dedicated their time and talent to helping bring this vision to life.”
RDG Planning & Design and Creighton University began planning for the future of the School of Dentistry in 2006 by assessing existing facilities and holding a visioning retreat to assess potential opportunities to better serve the university, students and the community.
RDG's design for the Creighton University School of Dentistry unites innovative learning and service spaces into a single, contemporary facility where students, clinicians and patients can partner in learning and practice. Officially opened in 2018, the four-level, state-of-the-art facility utilizes telemedicine and active learning environments in addition to the traditional didactic teaching pedagogy. Included are 138 adult clinic operatory chairs; 10 surgery and six acute care operatories with provision for 24/7 care services; 13 faculty practice operatories; and 15 pediatric/orthodontic operatories. Following its opening, patient capacity increased from 12,000 to 15,000 individuals per year, expanding the reach of Creighton’s high-quality dental care.
Each year, ENR Midwest utilizes independent judges to determine its award winners. In 2019, there were 97 total entries in 20 separate project categories. 35 total winners were named ranging from Best Project to Award of Merit.
