Kene Okigbo Appointed to American Society of Landscape Architects Executive Committee

Okigbo brings extensive experience and leadership to the board, championing the role of landscape architects in advancing environmental and social justice.

RDG Planning & Design proudly announces that Kene Okigbo, PLA, ASLA, has been appointed to serve on the executive committee for the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) as the vice president of communications. His three-year term begins following the 2025 ASLA Conference on Landscape Architecture, held from October 10 to 13, 2025, in New Orleans.

“Kene’s appointment to the ASLA Executive Committee is a reflection of his thoughtful leadership, his ability to communicate the power of place and his dedication to advancing equity through design,” said RDG Landscape Architect and Senior Partner Cary Thomsen, PLA, ASLA. “His presence on the national stage reinforces RDG’s commitment to inclusive, impactful environments and highlights the importance of landscape architecture in shaping resilient, connected communities. We’re proud to see him lead and inspire on behalf of the profession and our firm.”

Based in the firm’s Omaha office, Okigbo focuses on the design and planning of public spaces that foster connection, access and cultural meaning. A dedicated ASLA member since 2012, he has long championed the role of landscape architects in advancing environmental and social justice. His leadership journey began as vice president of the North Dakota State University student chapter and evolved into roles such as emerging professionals chair for the Nebraska/Dakotas Chapter and participation in ASLA’s Federal Advocacy Day

Throughout his career in landscape architecture, Okigbo has been recognized with ASLA’s Emerging Professional Medal and Outstanding Service Award, the Young Urbanist Award from Omaha by Design and the ENR-ACE National Mentor of the Year Award

As vice president of communications, Okigbo will collaborate with ASLA leadership and staff, participate in national editorial and public awareness efforts and serve as liaison to key committees. He will also contribute to strategic planning, budget review and governance as a member of the executive committee and the ASLA Fund Board of Directors.
