Grinnell City Hall (former Iowa Transportation Museum)
Services provided on this project:
RDG rehabilitated the original historic Spaulding automobile factory in 2012, a National Register site that was in need of new life and purpose. The 2012 rehabilitation transformed the site into a state-of-the-art, interactive museum and education center. In 2017, the interior spaces were transformed once again, to accommodate new City Hall offices and program spaces. Modifications were made to the existing architectural walls, doors, floors, ceilings and finishes; existing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire alarm and fire suppression systems.
Maintaining its original character, the historic Spaulding automobile factory was reborn first as a regional transportation museum and education center, then as a new City Hall. The design team created an array of appealing, functional spaces. Engineering services include lighting protection, lighting, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and communication systems.
