Architecture Overview:
This full-service north Iowa hospital asked RDG, together with our partner BWBR Architects, to design a major addition for comprehensive behavioral health services. The facility provides greatly expanded services for people dealing with behavioral health issues. The design features bright, open group therapy spaces and a focus throughout on safety and security for patients as well as staff. Every aspect of every patient space is anti-ligature, and acute patient rooms allow 24-hour surveillance if needed. The addition houses both inpatient and outpatient services, units specific to general, adolescent and geriatric behavioral health services, transition-training space, offices and education spaces.

Healthcare,
Even though [patients] may be forced to be here, they are not prisoners. Providing an environment that’s warmer and more open gives the feeling of a place that’s providing help.
