Gingham's
Homestyle
Restaurant

Client
Craig Uttendorf
Location
St. Charles, MO

Led by veteran restauranteur and community leader Craig Uttendorf (Missouri Restaurant Association's "Restauranteur of the Year" in 2019, Gingham's Homestyle Restaurant had evolved into a beloved, homestyle, comfort food spot in St. Charles. However, after 30 years in the same location, there were space challenges serving customers 24 hours a day.

A new location allowed for an updated layout with more spacious seating areas, more counter space, a larger waiting area, a private dining room, greater efficiency for staff, and more customer parking, while preserving the modern farmhouse kitchen design feel.

Diners are greeted by the pie case display surrounded by a bright, barn-red diner counter and stools flanked by ceramic wall tile in a playful white/blue gingham pattern. Above hangs a floating aluminum tin ceiling with acoustic baffling hidden above to improve sound absorption/acoustics throughout the restaurant.

Rough-treated white shiplap, barn red sliding barn doors, corrugated metal wainscoting and heavy-duty wallcovering work together to withstand the 24-hour use of the restaurant. Design details feature work by local artists and comforting touches that accommodate Gingham's devoted clientele ranging in age from college students and families to senior citizens.
