The KANEKO Rammed Earth Sculpture Park explores the potential of biogenic materials while engaging future design thinkers in hands-on education.

Hosted at KANEKO, a contemporary museum founded by Jun Kaneko, the week-long workshop invited students to design a speculative sculpture garden using rammed earth as the primary construction method. Guided by principles of emphasis and hierarchy, participants created a balance of intimate spaces and expansive promenades, celebrating the natural beauty of earth as material. The workshop connected design exploration with research into biogenic construction. Students built scaled rammed earth walls using locally sourced soil, gaining direct experience in sustainable building practices while sparking dialogue about society's reliance on fossil fuels and synthetic materials. The project highlights an optimistic vision of regenerative design, positioning the next generation of Midwest designers to reimagine construction culture using natural, resilient materials.
