This project was guided by a strategic design vision to reinforce the interior's biophilic concept while supporting the building's core mission of health, wellness, connection and community.
The graphic system was intentionally developed to bring the Montana outdoors inside, creating an immediate and meaningful connection to place, particularly for students and visitors who may be unfamiliar with Montana's natural environment.
The desired experience within the building is one that feels natural, energizing, welcoming, comfortable, and restorative. These experiential goals informed every design decision and were translated into the graphic language through established principles of biophilic design, including reflection, refuge, and patterning, each of which fosters a deeper connection between people and nature.
Visually, the work balances strong black-and-white architectural linework with organic forms, soft color palettes, subtle textures, and layered patterning. This contrast creates impactful focal moments while maintaining warmth and approachability. The result is an environment that supports wellness and connection while offering every visitor a powerful and authentic sense of Montana's landscape and spirit.
