Evaluating the need for ADA-compliant signage within the sixty-year-old Main Building was the administration's primary request at Western Nebraska Community College.

In conjunction with major renovations, administrators recognized an opportunity to bring the building up to current standards and asked RDG to assess signage needs across multiple campus buildings.

Early conversations revealed the importance of helping users navigate the complex facility, leading the design team to incorporate a comprehensive system of wayfinding signs and area identifications. A thorough on-site documentation effort informed a recommendation that went beyond minimum ADA requirements to address communication gaps and provide enhanced functionality.

Careful consideration was given to creating sign systems that could be easily updated in rural Nebraska with minimal maintenance and downtime, supporting the ever-changing use of space and nomenclature in higher education. The design team's work extended beyond the building itself and included a campus wayfinding master plan to guide future signage as the administration continues campus-wide development.
