Clarkson College Celebrates Groundbreaking for Updated Facility
The series of projects, designed by RDG, will offer enhanced space for students, community learners and healthcare innovation.
On Monday, June 2, 2025, Clarkson College leaders, faculty, staff and students gathered to celebrate the ceremonial groundbreaking of the College’s transformative Welcome Center and Link project. Located at the corner of 42nd and Dodge Streets near Omaha’s Blackstone District, the new development is set to expand student learning environments, improve campus wayfinding and create stronger connections across the institution. RDG Planning & Design is leading design for the project, working alongside Clarkson College to advance healthcare education through thoughtful, student-focused environments.
“These campus improvements are necessary for Clarkson College to continue to be a leader in healthcare education and to serve our community well,” said Dr. Andreia Nebel, president and CEO of Clarkson College. “People do not think about healthcare until they need it. When that day comes, you want the best for you, your family and friends. That is why investing today in healthcare education is critically important.”
Central to the project is the adaptive reuse of the South Building, a former daycare, which will be reimagined as a modern hub for healthcare learning. The building will feature a new glass-fronted lobby that welcomes students and visitors alike. Inside, the facility will also include a 3D Printing and Training Center of Excellence.
“This project is a powerful example of how design can help to shape the future of healthcare education,” said RDG Architect and Partner, Katie Ramsbottom, AIA, LEED AP, NCARB. “Our team is working closely with Clarkson College to create environments that are functional and flexible but also inspiring — places where students can connect and prepare to lead in their fields. We're proud to contribute to a campus that supports learning, wellness and community at every level.”
Further enhancements include the installation of an ornamental arch at the south end of campus, which will serve as the entry to an expanded Clarkson Service League Heritage Garden. The garden will feature green spaces, a memorial area and zones for quiet reflection. One of the most prominent features of the project is the creation of a campus-wide “Link”—a fully enclosed corridor that will connect all campus buildings and offer safe, year-round passage. The Link will also include flexible gathering spaces, designated study zones and a display recognizing Clarkson College donors. As part of the longer-term vision of the College, future phases of development are expected to introduce additional features such as refreshed
Physical Therapist Assistant Program spaces, a professional development suite and a prominent digital display and a four-story scrim at the main building’s northwest corner. These planned improvements will further define the visual identity of Clarkson College and enhance the student and visitor experience.
The current phase of construction represents an estimated $10 million investment and underscores the commitment of Clarkson College to innovation in healthcare education. Phase 1 is expected to reach completion in the summer of 2026.
