Collin Barnes speaks with the Des Moines Business Record to discuss how the latest trends in office design respond to changing employee needs and wants.

As workplace flexibility, productivity and culture remain hot topics in office design, interior designers are continually looking for ways to incorporate desirable amenities that will positively impact employee recruitment and retention. In response to this focus, the Des Moines Business Record interviewed five local interior designers, including RDG’s Collin Barnes, IIDA, LEED AP ID+C, AIA Professional Affiliate Member, to discuss significant trends in office design, including collaborative spaces, environmental graphics and connectivity, and how these trends affect employee sentiment.

Barnes shares that wellness is a big part of workplace design. With physical and mental health being a top priority for employees, traditional spaces are being reimagined for broader purposes that serve more people's mental and physical health needs. Likewise, many employers are looking for ways to support an increasingly hybrid workforce, incorporating a mix of dedicated and hoteling desks.
