The new Leonard J. Kaplan Center for Wellness, designed by RDG, brings together the university’s recreation and wellness programs into one department.

On Friday, September 16th, the University of North Carolina Greensboro celebrated the grand opening of its new student wellness and recreation facility. The new 216,000 SF Leonard J. Kaplan Center for Wellness spans three levels and is twice the size of the existing recreation facility, bringing together the university’s recreation and wellness programs into one department.

RDG’s design creates more than 20,000 SF of space for weight-lifting and fitness, seven basketball courts, lap and activity pools, a 54-foot-tall climbing wall and programming for nutrition, outdoor activities and aquatics. The facility also offers a variety of new group exercise classes, as well as social spaces and seating areas where students can relax with friends and play billiards, shuffleboard, video games and table tennis.
