Architecture Overview:

The Fairfield University project is a blend of renovation and new construction and addition. Significant expansion in enrollment and the need for simulation and clinical learning space drove the renovation of the existing 25,000-square-foot building and the addition of 50,000 square feet. In addition to the Center of Excellence for Palliative Care, the combined facility provides a 10-bed health assessment lab, two 10-exam table assessment labs, task training, two operating room simulation spaces, four standardized patient exam rooms, four simulation suites, four active learning classrooms for up to 60 students, lecture/small group learning for up to 100 participants, and a number of faculty offices, additional classrooms, and collaboration/community space throughout. The classrooms are designed with the flexibility to support technology in the future. The Center of Excellence for Palliative Care supports active learning as well as conferences and seminars for nursing and other academic units on campus. Adjacent to all learning spaces, the student collaboration and community spaces overlook the center of campus through floor to ceiling glass.
