Douglas Avenue
Corridor Plan

Client
City of Des Moines
Location
Des Moines, IA
Completion date
April 2020

The Douglas Avenue Corridor Plan connects neighborhoods, cultures and community destinations that, together, create a unique environment relative to other corridors in Des Moines.

This corridor is a gateway to four distinct Des Moines' neighborhoods and provides an opportunity for people to celebrate their heritage and come together to create new traditions. The plan's purpose is to address a set of intertwining challenges on the aging 2.4-mile Douglas Avenue: a trend of private property disinvestment/turnover along the corridor; poor multi-modal transportation access/safety beyond the private vehicle; and a lack of corridor identity. The plan takes a holistic approach in tackling these challenges to provide the community, city, staff and partner organizations with a road map for a strong future.
