Des Moines, IA
Services provided on this project:
Landscape Architecture Overview:
In 2013, Des Moines Water Works, in conjunction with the City of Des Moines and the Des Moines Water Works Park Foundation, launched a Master Plan for the future of Water Works Park. Water Works Park is a 1,500-acre urban park—one of the largest the in the nation, and a critical source of clean drinking water to 500,000 Central Iowans. The design celebrates clean water by conserving land, enhancing the Park’s innovative water filtration systems and offering more recreational and educational opportunities. The amphitheater is one of the most iconic elements proposed at the Park as part of the Phase 1 project and will provide a unique outdoor performance venue designed to accommodate small, intimate events as well as large performances for over 20,000 spectators.
Lighting Design Overview:
The amphitheater is one of the most iconic elements within the Park and provides a unique outdoor performance venue designed to accommodate small, intimate events as well as large performances for over 20,000 spectator. Two columns spaced sixty feet apart, comprised of a resilient concrete pier with multiple steel pipes, twist upward to support a steel superstructure from which iridescent painted aluminum panels are clad. Lighting trusses together with recessed, color-changing LEDs provide multiple options for light sources.
