Architecture Overview:

The students of Western Nebraska Community College are living an upgraded campus experience as a result of the school's first major residential commons update since the 1960's with the 57,000 SF renovation of, and 16,690 SF addition to Pioneer Hall and Activity Center. Pioneer Hall is the center hub for much of the residential life on campus. RDG architects re-imagined the existing three-story hall to incorporate 50 new rooms, providing accommodations for 64 additional beds, while at the same time carving out new student gathering spaces, including a dedicated computer lab that capitalizes on the scenic view of the Scotts Bluff National Monument.   Pioneer Hall is home to on-site dining services at John C. Bishop Dining Hall as well as an activity lounge that supports student life with laundry facilities, a student kitchen, piano and recreational games. Pioneer Horizon is a new residence hall featuring double-occupancy rooms with private baths and comfort control settings, increasing the overall occupancy of Pioneer residences to over 160 beds. A minimum of four units per floor offer handicap-accessible bathrooms. Renovations and new construction alike boast low-maintenance finishes and energy-saving improvements throughout restroom, laundry and kitchen spaces. All of this, with the addition of conference room spaces, gives student residents modern amenities with all the comforts of home.
